As an Edinburgh wedding photographer who specialises in small weddings and elopements, I (Kris Soul Photography) had the absolute joy of capturing this intimate day. It was just the bride, groom, and two witnesses — proof that love doesn’t need a crowd to make it special.
A Fairytale Setting at Melville Castle
Melville Castle is one of my favourite venues near Edinburgh. Tucked away in stunning woodland, it feels like stepping into a romantic Scottish fairytale. The castle’s grand architecture and peaceful grounds create the perfect backdrop for heartfelt wedding moments and beautiful photography.
The ceremony took place inside one of the castle’s elegant rooms, filled with soft light and a quiet sense of anticipation. Fiona Flanagan, a wonderful celebrant, conducted a deeply personal and emotional ceremony — full of laughter, love, and tears of joy.
A Bride in Black and Blue
The bride looked absolutely stunning in a black and blue wedding dress, paired with Dr. Martens — a perfect combination of elegance and individuality. It was such a refreshing twist on tradition, and it suited her perfectly. The groom looked equally stylish, complementing her look beautifully.
Together, they were a dream to photograph — relaxed, joyful, and completely focused on each other.

My approach to elopement photography is always to keep things natural and authentic. I love capturing those quiet glances, the shared laughter, and the in-between moments that truly tell the story of the day.
We spent some time exploring the castle grounds, taking portraits among the trees and old stone walls, before heading back inside to make the most of the castle’s gorgeous interiors. Every image tells a part of their love story — timeless, emotional, and full of personality.
